Obituary: Phyllis Naff Pearson Howell

Phyllis Naff Pearson Howell of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 78, died March 30, 2006, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born December 23, 1927, in Brunswick County, Virginia, to Willy Tillar “Buddy” Taylor Pearson and Selma Taylor Pearson. She graduated from the Virginia School for the Deaf in Staunton, and retired from Maxway, Inc. She attended Shady Grove United Methodist Church of Short Pump, near Richmond, Virginia, and was very active in the Deaf community.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Howell. Surviving are a daughter, Pam Culler, and husband Greg, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Todd Blevins and wife Joy, Lori Clodfelter and husband Rusty, Justin Culler, and Christopher Culler; four great-grandchildren, Nevin Hunter, Russ, Jeremy, and Madison Clodfelter; and two sisters, Faye Howell and husband Sonny of Elizabeth City, and Selma Wills and husband Calvin of Norfolk, Virginia. On March 31, the family received condolence visits from friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A funeral service was held on Saturday morning, April 1, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Goode officiating and Marcia Poole as sign-language interpreter. Burial was at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
